Tug-Of-War Event

The Hanover, Bentinck and Brant Agricultural Society is excited to announce the return of a classic Fair event, the Tug-Of-War Competition.
Who: You and 5 teammates (teams can be no larger than 6 people)
What: A Tug-Of-War Competition (official game rules below)
Where: Hanover Raceway, Grandstand
When: Saturday, August 8, 2026 from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Why: The winning team will receive $700 to donate to a Grey-Bruce charity of their choice;
The second place team will receive $300 to donate to a Grey-Bruce charity of their choice.

(A minimum of four teams are required for the competition to run.)

Official Game Rules
➔ Teams may be no larger than 6 people;
➔ Each team may have 1 “driver” - a person not an official member of the team, but someone acting as a coach from the sidelines;
➔ Team members must be wearing closed-toe shoes (no cleats, sandals or flip flops);
➔ Team members may use gloves;
➔ Each team is guaranteed to play at least 2 pulls;
➔ The tournament will utilize a round robin format.
Rules of the Game:
➔ Before the start of the pull, the rope will be held immediately above the centre line marked on the ground;
➔ Contestants may not begin pulling until the start signal is initiated;
➔ The rope must be pulled underarm;
➔ The rope may not be looped around any team members arm or hand;
➔ A foul will be called if a contestant’s elbow goes below their knee.
Winning the Match:
Each team will have a mark on their end of the rope. The team whose mark goes over the centre line first is declared the loser.
*Note: A liability waiver will be provided to each contestant and must be signed before participating.
